How I Started Smoking (And Why I Couldn’t Stop for 30 Years)

In my youth, I was deeply into martial arts and competed seriously. I didn’t drink. I didn’t smoke. Sport was my element, and discipline was second nature.

Everything changed when I turned 18. My best friend invited me for a walk and, saying he had a gift for me, offered me a cigarette. The next day, he offered me one again. A youthful act of friendship. No malice. It just happened.

I got hooked. Not right away. But quietly, without noticing.

Six months later, my friend became deeply religious, was baptized, and joined a Christian community. There, he was quickly “cured” of the habit in the name of his faith. I stayed behind with the cigarettes. Alone.

And I smoked all those years. Since 1993.

Dozens of Attempts. Promises. Relapses.

I don’t know the exact number of times I tried to quit. Many. More than 40, I think. I promised my wife. I promised my children. Solemnly. Even with oaths. And I relapsed… Guilt, moments of lost self-respect — I went through all of that.

I tried “willpower” — lasted a day, three days, a week. Then something small: work stress, boredom, a good project — and my hand reached for a pack.

I tried replacing the urge to smoke by listening to Allen Carr’s audiobook. I tried patches, pills, acupuncture. Some worked temporarily, most didn’t work at all. Because the problem wasn’t nicotine. The problem was in my mind — in the illusions my own brain had built.

“I used to think a cigarette helped me relax, focus, and handle stress. But that was a lie. The cigarette created the problem, then temporarily relieved it. A classic trap.”

How I Found a Way Out

One day, while reading about addictions, I realized: fighting a habit is a dead end. You can’t defeat what you’re fighting against. You can only reprogram your mind so the desire to smoke simply doesn’t arise.

I studied neuroscience, NLP, addiction psychology, various spiritual practices, Allen Carr’s method, and more. I combined everything into one system. And I tested it on myself.

The result: I quit. Immediately. Without relapse. Without feeling like a “victim.”

And most importantly — I still don’t want to smoke. The cigarette has lost all its appeal. I see it for what it is: paper, tobacco, toxins.

Why I Give This System Away for Free

I could sell this method. Package it into a course for hundreds of dollars. Many people do. But I don’t want to.

Because I was trapped for 30 years myself. And I know that people who genuinely need help are searching for something real. In clinics, there are posters saying “want to quit smoking? Visit our prevention office.” But those offices often don’t exist. The real help centers are rare, and I’ve been to a few. Smokers have already spent thousands on “miracle pills,” super-clinics, coding therapies, hypnotherapy, and more. Some methods work — but only for a lucky few.

And most importantly — I believe: knowledge that saves health and life should not be sold. It should be available to everyone. No conditions. No “Pro versions.” No hidden fees.

The MakeLifeNotSmoke project is a gift. My gift to anyone who wants to break free from tobacco captivity. If it helps you — support the project, if you want to and when you can. But it’s not required. Freedom is not for sale.

My Promise to You

I wish happiness to everyone!

I’m not a theorist. I walked this path myself. And I know that everyone who sincerely wants to be free — can be.

It doesn’t matter how many cigarettes you’ve smoked. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve relapsed. It doesn’t matter how many years you’ve been in captivity.

You can become free today. Just read the “Start Here” section and follow the system.

I will keep developing this project until it becomes a real global resource — not just words on a page.

With respect and belief in each of you,

Serge Archakov
